Lakes

Seven glacier lakes that, due to its exceptional beauty and glacial origin, received the name "mountain eyes", adorn one of the most beautiful mountains of the Dinaric system - Zelengora. These are: Orlovačko, Štirinsko, Kotlaničko, Donje and Gornje Bare, Crno and Bijelo Lake. Borilovačko is the only artificial lake on Zelengora.
About Štirinsko Lake

Štirinsko Lake

This lake is the largest on Zelengora and is at the highest altitude. The lake is very shallow. It lies in a karst bay at an altitude of 1,677 m. The length of the lake is about 600 m, width 350 m, with a maximum depth of about 1.8 m. The shores of the lake are of a slight inclination covered by a wide belt of water grass in which the wild duck lies. There is no fish because the water is shallow and in winter, these fish cannot survive. The lake is reachable on foot and the path takes about 2 hours from Orlovačko Lake.
About Kotlaničko Lake

Kotlaničko Lake

It is located at an altitude of 1,514 m, surrounded by gray stone reefs, about 4 km south of Štirinsko Lake. The length of the lake is about 300 m and the width is from 80 m to 120 m. In the southern part of the lake below the rock at a large stone flowing water sinks into a karst pit and appears as a spring about 5 km south in Pridvorica. The lake is a pear-shaped, and the greatest depth is close to 7 m. Kotlaničko Lake is a unique natural phenomenon, around there are several springs that complement the lake as well as springs at the bottom of the lake that serve both the outflow and the inflow of water. It's rich with fish. The Kotlaničko Lake is located an hour and a half from Orlovačko Lake (which can be reached by car). The Kotlaničko and Štirinsko Lake are about an hour to a two-hour walk from Jugovo Lake, which is accessible to the car.
About Donje Bare Lake

Donje Bare Lake

Donje Bare Lake is about 1 hour and 15 minutes of driving from Tjentište (19 km of macadam road) at an altitude of 1500 m. It is 200 m long and 140 m wide with a maximum depth of over 4 m. In Donje Bare there is also a small cottage, which is possible to rent for a night in agreement with the management of the "Sutjeska" National Park.
About Gornje Bare Lake

Gornje Bare

To Gornje Bare, one is walking on foot for thirty minutes northwest of Donje Bare Lake. It is located at an altitude of 1,550 m above sea level. It is about 150 meters long, about 80 meters wide, and the greatest depth is about 2 meters. There are no fish in it.
About Crno (Black) Lake

Crno (Black) Lake

It is located at an altitude of 1450 m. The basin of the lake is an oval shaped, length 80-90 m, with a depth of 1 to 1.5 m. It's rich with a trout. Black humus covers the shores and the bottom of the lake, and hence the lake got its name. Length 170, width 80, depth 3 m. The lake is reached the way that one turns on 15th km from the main road Foča-Tjentište, towards Vrbnica, and then to Repuhov do (21 km), from where you can walk to the lake for thirty minutes.
About Bijelo (White) Lake

Bijelo (White) Lake

Bijelo (White) Lake is located at an altitude of 1417 m and is reached in 10 minutes by a walk from Crno (Black) Lake. The surface of the lake is 0.72 ha, and the depth is up to 3 m. There is no fish because the water is iced in winter. There is a white rock (stone) in the middle of the lake, and the lake got its name after it.
About Orlovačko Lake

Orlovačko Lake

It is located at 1500 m. The length of the lake is about 250 m, width is about 120 m, and the maximum depth is about 4 m. Two hours of walking from this lake is the largest peak of Zelengora, Bregoč (2014m), from which there is an extraordinary view. You arrive to the lake by car, along the main road Tjentište-Gacko to Čemerno (26 km), from where you turn to the lake (22 km). In the summer it is very pleasant for swimming. The lake shore is slightly sloping, and the bottom and the shores are covered by aquatic plants.
About Borilovačko Lake

Borilovačko Lake

It is located at 1450 m above sea level and is the only artificial lake in Zelengora. It is surrounded by the peaks of Kalelia and Stog. It is about 250 m long and about 100 m wide. The lake is harvested every year by the Californian trout. It is 24 km away from Čemerno and a macadam road leads to the lake.
About Trnovačko Lake

Trnovačko Lake

It is territorially part of Montenegro, but it is located just along the border of the narrow zone of the "Sutjeska" National Park at the foot of the south-western slopes of Maglić, Volujak and Bioč. It is surrounded by high mountain peaks: Vlasulje (2337m), Carev Do (2200m), Vrste (2301m) and Maglić (2386m). The lake is over 700m long, 400m wide, at an altitude of 1,517m. To this lake one comes from Tjentište through Dragoš sedlo to Prijevor (19 km), from where it takes about 2 hours on foot through Suha jezerina. It can also be reached from Suha, along the Sušićki potok in 4 hours walk.
